My name is Rochelle Widdowfield, and I have been blessed to be part of the High Fives program for several years.
High Fives! is NCCA’s transitional kindergarten program. Before working at NCCA, I spent 3 years at New Brighton Area School District. I am also a 2008 graduate of Westminster College. The High Fives! program is designed to help students be prepared for kindergarten. The guidelines for the program include that the students must be 5 years old by December 31. High Fives! is currently the only transitional program in Lawrence County and students attending the program go to kindergarten understanding letter names and sounds, numbers through 30 and basic addition.
My favorite part of the program is its focus on the Bible. We learn about heroes of the Bible such as David, Joseph and Moses. We also spend a lot of time learning about the Christmas story and Easter. The theme verse of my classroom is “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I make you fishers of men.” Mark 1:17
